Westergren says that Lil Wayne and Drake make roughly $3 million each from the service every year. Artists that aren’t so mainstream like Mumford & Sons make $523,902. Also Bon Iver makes $135,223 each year from the service. One of Westergren’s main points in this blog is that most artists do in fact make far less than that kind of money from digital streaming services. He then says that the reason is because of the major record labels for the low royalty rates paid to artists.
Blink-182 has left Universal Music Group, announced guitarist Tom DeLonge. The group has been signed to the label since 1997. A new recent trend has been for major label artists to start their own labels after their contract expires. Blink 182 just became their own independent artists.
